Facial Shapes and Which Earrings Look Best With Them

The first 4 face shapes are soft and curved;
the last 4 face shapes have more angles and corners.

  •  An oval shape is slightly longer than it is wide, with curved, soft edges.  Recommended earrings:  Any shape.   Be sure that size is proportionate to the wearer, whether she is petite or full figured.  Pearls, teardrops, circles and ovals really accentuate an oval shaped face.
  •  A round face will have about the same distance all around with the nose as a center point.  It will be as wide as it is long, with rounded edges.  Recommended earrings:  Long earrings that make the face appear longer.  Drops with soft shapes, like teardrops, best suit round faces.
  •  An oblong shape has a long oval shape.  Although often mistaken as oval, placed next to a "true" oval, it will appear longer.  Recommended earrings:  Button earrings which draw attention to the eyes and cheekbones.
  • A heart shaped face is wider at the eye, temple and cheek area, with a narrow chin.  The edges are soft and curved.  Recommended earrings:  Earrings that are wider at the bottom to balance a narrower chin.  Teardrops, inverted triangles or buttons work particularly well.
  • A diamond face is widest at the cheeks and narrow at the chin and forehead.  It has sharper, more pronounced features.  Recommended earrings:  Dramatic earrings with sharp corners, points and edges complement the lines of the face.  Cut crystals lend themselves well to a diamond shaped face.
  • A square shape is basically straight across the forehead and along the side of the face.  The jaw is full and square; the chin may protrude.  A square face also has a distance from the top of the face to the chin matches the width, the face is square.  Recommended earrings:   Drop earrings which create the appearance of length.
  • A rectangular face is similar to a square; but, the face is longer than it is wide.  Recommended earrings:  Button style earrings with lines that complement the lines of one's face.
  • A triangular shaped face is similar to a heart; but, the lines and edges of it are more pronounced.  Recommended earrings:  Earrings with width at the bottom that balance the shape of the face.
